SkyDec was present at two exhibitions in the Netherlands last months. At 13 April 2011 we presented ourselves at the pretentious KIVI NIRIA Kooy Symposium at the Dutch Marine base in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. One month later, at 12 May, we exhibited at the NIDV safety exhibition “Hand in hand for safety” at the “Van Ghentkazerne” in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The Kooy symposium was organised by the Royal institute of engineers KIVI NIRIA, division Defence and Safety in cooperation with TNO and APA. The Dutch minister of Defence Drs. J.S.J. (Hans) Hillen was present as one of the speakers.

During this symposium we presented our new secure GSM development in cooperation with partners Compumatica and 2Connect-IT. This new concept offers a secure GSM voice and e-mail connection by using existing infrastructure of insecure local internet providers or even an insecure satellite connection. Just by means of using our hand carry SkyDec GSM case a network can be fully encrypted. Ideal for use as a disaster relief solution.

At the safety exhibition of the NIDV we presented our total product range, which comprises a varied range of high-end navigation systems and GPS-related hardware and software, including a demonstration of GPS jamming and countermeasures, as eLoran.

SkyDec’s Sales Director Maurice Meinster has won the so-called Intercom Award with the article “GPS jamming, an issue which affects us all”, which was published at the Dutch Intercom Magazine at the end of last year. The award was handed out by the Association of liaison officers of the Dutch Royal Army in Soesterberg, the Netherlands, this month.

In the article, Maurice Meinster describes in clear language the consequences of what will happen if the American GPS signal (officially called NAVigation Satellite Time And Ranging of NAVSTAR) will be jammed. The article discusses the effect for the daily life situations for every human being in that particular area if the GPS is jammed. Not only the traffic navigation will be disrupted for everyone, also financial transactions, hospital equipment and communication systems might be affected.

In the article, Maurice Meinster just wants the reader to be conscious about this issue. He describes alternatives for GPS and shows that, if we use it correctly, we even can take military advantages using GPS jamming.

Like last year, SkyDec starts the new year with another important achievement. Next to our ISO 9001:2008 certification received in January 2010, SkyDec acquires also the ISO 14001:2004 certification.

The ISO 14001:2004 certificate proves that our environmental management system has been measured against a best practice standard, nationally and internationally, and found compliant.
[Articles] GPS storen een zaak die ons allemaal raakt - Winner Intercom Award 2010!

This article is available in Dutch only!

Time And Ranging of NAVSTAR.

[Press releases] SkyDec organizes live demonstration of laser dazzler system

At the 15th of December we organize a live demonstration of our brand new laser dazzler system, which will be deployed for several purposes as maritime- and military security, anti-piracy, crowd control and compound - and roadblock security.

The 'Military Laser Security System Hand-held Series' is the first economic, portable and hand-held laser dazzler system commercially available today. It is based on the proven Lasersec System's SeaLase Maritime Laser Dazzler System. It features a deterrence range of 4.000 meters and it effectively stops external threats at 500-1000 meters. Its primary and secondary (thermal) weapon sight gives the user all weather detection and aiming capabilities. With the command and control unit the operator can evaluate threats and can decide upon firing the laser. The special fire button prevents unwanted use of the system and guarantees maximum safety. The system is designed, manufactured and distributed by SkyDec and MSS Maritime Security Solutions and is available for sea and land-based and fully automated and gyro-stabilized configurations. After a successful introduction at the METS exhibition in Amsterdam last month, the time was right to give a live demonstration.

The demonstration will be held near Rotterdam. Two demonstrations with live firing on a fast moving target, simulating a piracy attack will be held on this day. One at daylight and one during darkness. Invitees are free to join the craft to experience the tremendous effects of the laser system. People on board will be provided with full protective gear and life saving equipment.

Meanwhile there will be given an explanatory demonstration / presentation by an instructor, who can tell you all about the insights of the laser dazzler system.

Please register by sending an e-mail (before the 10th of December 2010) to: reception@skydec.nl

[Press releases] SkyDec GPS repeater makes immediate action of Landing Craft possible

Nowadays Dutch marine LCVP's can leave the landing deck fast and come into immediate action as they obtain a GPS signal within seconds. Thanks to the GPS repeater provided by SkyDec, ships do not have to wait crucial minutes anymore before they can start navigating.

The GPS repeater operates by receiving GPS satellite signals with an antenna located at the outside of the ship and re-radiating the signals to the ships covered landing docks. Use of re-radiated signals means that the GPS receiver is tracking the current GPS status and when a GPS receiver is moved from a covered area to outdoors, the receiver is instantly tracking the location instead of time consuming acquisition of GPS data.

Next to marine ships, the GPS repeater can also be used for various other applications as for instance in buildings, bunkers, tunnels and vehicles. Read more at GPS repeater product information

[Press releases] Tactiplot by SkyDec proves effective for Dutch Marines in counter-striking Somali pirates

The Tactiplot navigation suite, developed by SkyDec, turned out to be an effective aid to assist the Dutch Marines in counter-striking Somali pirates.

By using landing crafts equipped with our Tactiplot navigation suite, the Dutch transport ship Hr. Ms. Johan de Witt was able to disturb pirate activities at the Somali coast twice in just a few days in April 2010.

Thanks to the use of our Tactiplot navigation suite the landing crafts are able to operate further from the mothership and thus closer to the coast. Instead of tracing and locating pirates at open sea, the Johan de Witt patrols close to the cities to prevent the pirates leaving.
